Frequently Asked Questions
What kinds of items are swapped at a regular My Sister’s Wardrobe exchanges?
These events attract everything from designer wear to good quality basic garments from local high street stores. Placed side by side in the context of the exchange, a great little frock from a basic label can upstage a designer dress because the exchange rightfully places style and fit before branding.
What kinds of items are swapped at a regular the Mum’s and Bub’s exchanges?
These events are designed for Mum’s to be and Mum’s with Bub’s to swap clothes for their fast-growing children and themselves. This event predominantly attracts baby and toddlers clothes sized 0000 to 3. Mums bring maternity clothing and regular preloved items from their wardrobes to this exchange.
So is it possible to swap my ugly tracky dacks for a gucci dress?
Our screening process mediates the quality control of the garments exchanged so it sounds like those tracksuit pants would not make the cut but our exchange would allow a good quality basic to be traded for a designer dress as the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Do your clothing exchanges attract a wide range of sizes?
Our events attract a ladies of all shapes and sizes, but because those at the smaller spectrum have the opportunity to wear things oversized, we include a Curvy Sister’s department at some of our My Sister’s Wardrobe events to be fair.
What happens if I don’t find anything that suits me to take- can I keep my buttons for the next event?
The buttons are only valid for the night of the exchange so if you don’t find something to take in return, we suggest you grab some garments to trade at the next event, simply enjoy the extra wardrobe space or take pleasure in knowing your old wears went to a good home. If you are significantly disappointed than chat to us and we’ll make it up to you.
Are there clothes leftover and if so, where do they go?
We are often surprised to se how few garments are left at the end of an exchange, so we really believe that one’s trash is another’s treasure. Those garments that are left are donated to Hunter Gatherer of The Brotherhood of St Laurence where they raise money for the charities initiatives.
What do I do if I don’t have a credit card and can’t book a ticket online?
Rest assured, we’ve always had tickets available at the door to date. The only exception is if the event listing specifies that bookings are essential. In this case email info@clothingexchange.com.au and we’ll make alternative arrangements that suit you.
Who runs these swaps and what do they get out of it?
The Clothing Exchange is run by a devoted little team who host events with the express intention to magnify the ecological benefits to save the earth, provide economical perks for participants and for the fun of it. We run events at a cost that’s inclusive rather than profitable so that everyone can swap to shop!

October Review
What a blast we all had at our last swap at the Croft for 08’ down in Melbourne! Because of painting upstairs, we avoided the fumes by hosting the event in the downstairs bar amongst the halloween decorations! The cocktails were remarkable and the event was electric. Us volunteers had to work twice as fast to get clothes onto racks before the enthused crowd was set loose to shop til they dropped!
Our Sydney team has also been growing and gaining momentum. With several successful swaps under their belt they are preparing for a fantastic swap to conclude the year!
To give you all a hint of what’s ahead, we’ll be quiet til Jan but we will start the year with several BIG events in Melbourne... The Sustainable Living Festival, The L’Oreal Fashion Festival and much much more. We’re also planning to host more events for the lovely Mum’s and their Bub’s!
So thanks for a year of fabulous swapping
The Clothing Exchange Team xx
Volunteers Wanted for 2009!
